Started working Out Of Hours

On Monday 29th October 2007 I started working OOH again - much to my delight. I much prefer working the night shift because the pay is better and we work 4 nights then have 4 nights off.

Our new car

On Tuesday 14th August 2007 the MG passed its MOT and after collecting it we went around a couple of car dealers looking at cars that we might like to trade for the MG. We had to put a new set of tyres on the MG before taking it for its MOT and a short while ago we had to have the waterpump and cambelt replaced so it is starting to cost us quite a bit of money. The cost of keeping the MG on the road is starting to go a bit too high for us to afford so we decided we should start looking for a newer replacement car.

We found a Vauxhall Astra automatic at Perry's in Milton Keynes which we both liked. We negotiated a deal with the salesman and traded the MG in for this Vauxhall Astra automatic. We collect the car on Saturday 17th August 2007. The Vauxhall is metallic green and has power steering, automatic gearbox, air conditioning, electric windows, central locking, alloy wheels and low profile tyres. The car is a 2002 model and is in very good condition with only 44300 miles on the clock.

The interior is very clean and neat with no tears or rips in the upholstery and all the instruments are clean and scratch free. The seats are very comfortable although possibly just a little on the hard side. Overall the car seems to have been well looked after and it has a complete service history. We both thought it was going for a reasonable price so we made the big decision to "go for it".

Our visit to Kew Gardens

On Sunday 17th June 2007 we went with Graham & Anne for a day outing to visit Kew Gardens in London. It was a most fascinating day with so much to see and do and we had a wonderful day in the fresh air and sunshine.

Graham & Anne picked us up in their car at around 9 o'clock in the morning and drove through to Kew Gardens. The first views of the gardens are of well kept lawns punctuated with trees and shrubs from around the world. Not far from the entrance is this wonderful old mansion with its beautiful lawns and the fountain out the front.

Take a look at some of the fascinating pictures we took during the day by clicking on the picture above.

The huge variety of trees and plants that they have growing in the gardens and green houses is quite overwhelming. Walking through the tropical greenhouses and seeing plants that grow wild in South Africa was quite heart warming. I felt quite at home there right in the middle of London. We walked for miles down the footpaths and through the greenhouses but were too intrigued to realize that our feet and legs were quite sore.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable day out and felt re-energized by the time we returned home in the evening.

Beginning of the end

Today is the beginning of the end for me. It is the first day of my last shift block at the company I am presently working for. On Monday 2nd April 2007 I will be starting a new daytime job. It will feel quite strange to work during daylight hours and sleep during the night as most normal people do. I will miss working the night shift but I must say I have enjoyed the experience.
